Magical Jungle Retreat â A Truly Unforgettable Stay
A friend invited my son and me to stay in the Penthouse at Maria 11:11 with her and her son. Iâve never written a review before, but Iâm so filled with gratitude for this experience that I feel compelled to share it. The setting is truly magical. Nestled in the jungle, the property features a beautifully designed palapa, ambient decorative lights at night, and close contact with nature. There are several swimming pools to enjoy, and we especially loved the complimentary bicycles, which we used to explore nearby cenotes and the charming town of Chemuyil. Despite the remote location, the home includes many comfortsâand some unexpected luxuriesâlike a private pool on a stunning balcony overlooking the jungle, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering spectacular views.
Air conditioning is available in every room, but even in the heat of summer, I never once used it. I preferred to keep the windows open and take in the sounds and scents of the jungle. We prepared most of our meals in the well-equipped kitchen, which includes a gas stove and high-quality cookware. One small note: there is a design quirk with the sink that can cause water to run off the basin onto the floor. It was easy to manageâjust keep a towel draped over the front while washing dishes. (Each room came with four towels, so we had plenty.)
Jordy and Myra, a kind and attentive couple who live onsite, were always available and eager to help. Their warmth made us feel right at home. When we casually mentioned we wanted to go for a bike ride, Myra called Jordyâwho was working nearbyâto come back and tune up the bikes for us. They even lent us their own 20-liter refillable water jug so we could exchange it at the store. We used it to fill the 5-gallon dispenser in the kitchen (which also includes a water filter, which we didn’t use since the water was already purified). We positioned it over the sink for a convenient and ample supply of clean waterâfor drinking, brushing teeth, and washing produce. If youâre seeking an eco-conscious, tranquil hideaway to unwind or a beautiful base from which to explore the YucatĂĄn Peninsula, I wholeheartedly recommend Maria 11:11. Itâs a special place that nourishes the soul and invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnectâwith nature, your loved ones, and yourself.

A Hidden Gem in the Riviera Maya â A Return Stay That Felt Like Coming Home
Weâve had the privilege of staying at Casa de Maria twice now as a family (once in the Penthouse for a month, and again a couple of years later in one of the beautiful two-bedroom units on the second floor) Both times were absolutely incredible. This place has truly become a home away from home for us. Itâs rare to find a rental that feels this personal, this well cared for, and this thoughtfully designed.
Our first stay was when our son was just learning how to swim, and it was here, in the peaceful jungle setting of Casa de Mariaâs pools, that he really took to the water. The memories we made then and again on our return are some of our familyâs most cherished.
From the moment you arrive, you feel the difference. Alejandra (Alex) personally met us at the property, gave us a detailed tour, and made sure we understood how everything worked from the rooftop plunge pool and BBQ area to the shared cenote-style pool, the bicycles, and the filtered water systems. He made us feel truly welcome.
Little touches stood out right away: two bags of ice and six chilled water bottles in the fridge when we arrived (much appreciated in the YucatĂĄn heat!), a fully stocked kitchen with high-quality cookware and serving dishes, and a water filtration system not only at the sink but also an additional eco countertop filter. The beds were incredibly comfortable with soft, hotel-grade linens. Maria has thought of absolutely everything from bug spray and first aid supplies to beach and bath towels and even candles for relaxing rooftop evenings.
The rooftop space in the Penthouse is really special. After a day exploring, weâd often grill up fresh fish and eat al fresco while our son played in the plunge pool under the stars. It felt private, peaceful, and luxurious.
Maria, Alex, and the on-site caretaker Jordi are some of the most genuinely kind and attentive people weâve encountered in all our travels. They are generous with their time and knowledge, and their presence truly enhances the experience. Youâre not just staying at a rental, youâre being hosted by people who care.
The location is another major highlight. Nestled in a quiet jungle neighborhood just outside of Chemuyil, it offers a peaceful retreat while still being close to everything. We were originally overwhelmed by the sheer number of rental options between Playa and Tulum, but the aesthetic, design, and amenities of Casa de Maria stood out and once we arrived and explored the area, we knew weâd made the right choice.
Chemuyil itself is a hidden treasure. You can walk or bike into town (Maria provides bicycles) and find all you needâauthentic Mexican bakeries, tasty restaurants, and well-stocked minimarts. We often opted to stay local rather than drive into Tulum. That said, if you do venture further, youâre just minutes from Xcacel beach, one of the most stunning and untouched beaches in the area. Itâs literally across the highway, a protected turtle sanctuary with soft sand and turquoise waters.
Back at Casa de Maria, the architecture and landscaping reflect a clear love for the environment and local culture. The jungle surroundings give it a true sense of place, while the modern amenities ensure comfort. Despite being surrounded by nature, we had no issues with bugs during either of our stays, even in August, which was a pleasant surprise.
In short, Casa de Maria strikes that rare balance of rustic beauty, comfort, intentional design, and warm human connection. Whether itâs your first time in the Riviera Maya or your tenth, this place will make you feel lucky to have found it.
Weâre grateful to Maria, Alex, and the entire team for creating such a magical oasis and for welcoming us not just once, but twice. We canât wait for the third time.
â Daniel

Sereno. Tranquilo. Relajante.
